Terms of Service
Version 1.0-draft · DRAFT FOR LAWYER REVIEW · Effective: [EFFECTIVE DATE]
These terms are between you and Badminton Ladder ("we", "us"). By continuing after you verify your sign-in code you confirm that you have read them, together with the Privacy Policy, Cookie Notice, Disclaimer and Community Guidelines, and that you agree to them.
1. What this service is
A free badminton singles ladder for groups of friends. Members record match scores, opponents confirm them, and the app works out ratings and rankings. It is a simple tool for fun. It is not an official ranking and is not connected to any association.
2. Who can use it
- You must be 13 or older. If you are under the age of majority where you live, use it with a parent's or guardian's permission. [TO CONFIRM: minimum age and parental-consent wording for US states]
- You can only use it as a member of a group you were invited to, or to create a group with an activation code we give you.
- You must be allowed to use the email address you sign in with.
- The service is intended for people in the United States only.
3. Your account
- There is no password. You sign in with a code we email to you. Keep your email account secure.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at [OPERATOR CONTACT EMAIL] if you think someone else is using it.
- Give your real or familiar name and the nickname you use in your WeChat group, so the admin can recognise you. Do not pretend to be someone else.
4. Group admins
Each group has one or more admins. They approve people who ask to join, remove members, change the group's rules, and can void a match. Admins act on their own. They do not speak for us, and we are not responsible for their decisions. If you disagree with an admin, talk to them first.
5. Acceptable use
Follow the Community Guidelines. In short: do not cheat or record matches that were not played, do not impersonate, harass or threaten anyone, do not try to break or overload the service, and do not try to access other people's data.
6. Ratings and rankings
Ratings and rankings are calculated from the scores members record and confirm. They are for fun, may be wrong, and are not official. A rating can change when a match is voided or when a group admin changes the group's rules. See the Disclaimer.
7. Your content
You own the information you enter. You give us permission to store it and show it to the members of your group as described in the Privacy Policy, and to keep the match records that are also part of other players' history.
8. Service "as is"
The service is provided as it is and as available, without promises. It may be interrupted, changed or stopped. See the Disclaimer. We are not responsible for injuries, disputes between players, or the conduct of other members.
9. Limits on our responsibility
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total responsibility for any claim is limited to [TO CONFIRM: amount, for example the greater of the amount you paid in the last 12 months or a small fixed sum]. Nothing here limits responsibility that cannot be limited by law. [TO CONFIRM: lawyer to review enforceability in [GOVERNING LAW AND VENUE]]
10. Suspending or ending access
We may suspend or end an account or a group if these terms or the guidelines are broken, to protect the service or other people, or if the group's hosting period ends (the group then becomes read-only). You can delete your account at any time in Settings. Your matches stay in your opponents' history without your name.
11. Closed testing
If you are using a test version, it is not a finished service. It can be reset, and data may be wiped at the end of testing. We will tell testers before that happens.
12. Changes to these terms
If we make a substantial change we will raise the version number, tell you in advance, and ask you to accept again the next time you sign in. If you do not agree, you can delete your account.
13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of [GOVERNING LAW AND VENUE]. [TO CONFIRM: dispute resolution, venue, and any consumer rights that cannot be waived]
